  16. INSTALLATION
  17. ------------
  18. The installation utility provided (INSTALL.EXE) will install Office 
  19. Supplies Tracker on your hard disk drive, and will also check to see that 
  20. your system meets all of the program requirements.
  21.  
  22. If you downloaded your copy of Office Supplies Tracker from a BBS or other 
  23. online service, you should uncompress (i.e. unZIP) the files into a 
  24. *temporary* subdirectory on your hard drive, and then let the installation 
  25. program install the actual program files in a permanent subdirectory.  To 
  26. install from the temporary subdirectory, switch to the temporary 
  27. subdirectory, type INSTALL, and press the [ENTER] key.

  29. If you have obtained your copy of Office Supplies Tracker on floppy 
  30. disk(s), you should insert the disk (Disk #1 if there are 2 disks) into 
  31. your floppy disk drive, type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL), and press the 
  32. [ENTER] key.

  34. IMPORTANT
  35. ---------
  36. You must set the following environmental variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT 
  37. file, or you must enter it from the command line prior to running the 
  38. program: 
  39.  
  40.     SET CLIPPER=F45
  41.  
  42. This command MUST be set in order for OST to run. The Installation utility 
  43. will automatically add the line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file if you want it 
  44. to, or you can answer NO at the install prompt and do it manually.

  46. You will also need to check the FILES and BUFFERS settings in your 
  47. CONFIG.SYS file (the install program will check this also, and give you the 
  48. opportunity to modify it you want to).  If you don't already have at least 
  49. 40 FILES and 20 BUFFERS, please change these lines accordingly:

  51.    FILES=40
  52.    BUFFERS=20
  53.  
  54. The installation program will make the necessary adjustments to your 
  55. CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file if you allow it to.  If you don't, then 
  56. you will need to make the changes manually.

  58. You will need to reboot your system in order for these changes to take 
  59. effect.

  62. QUICK START
  63. -----------
  64. In order to make FULL use of this program, you will need to read the 
  65. manual, which is supplied as the file MANUAL.TXT.  However, to get started 
  66. quickly just to see what the program looks like, simply switch to the 
  67. subdirectory where you have installed the program files (i.e. CD OST), type 
  68. OST and press [ENTER].  The program contains context-sensitive Help which 
  69. you can call by pressing the [F1] key.

  72. COLOR/MONOCHROME MONITORS
  73. -------------------------
  74. This program will check to see if you have a color video card installed in 
  75. your computer.  If it finds one, it will automatically set the screen 
  76. display to the color settings.  If it finds a monochrome video card, it 
  77. will automatically set the screen display to the monochrome settings.  If 
  78. you are using a color card with a monochrome monitor, the program may not 
  79. display properly.  However, you can go back to the DOS prompt and restart 
  80. the program using the command  OST M  to restart the program in forced 
  81. monochrome mode.

  84. PRINTING THE DOCUMENTATION:
  85. ---------------------------
  86. The documentation file (MANUAL.TXT) is formatted for 70-characters per 
  87. line, and 58-lines per page.  You can print the documentation from within 
  88. the program by selecting the UTILITIES pulldown menu, and then selecting 
  89. the "Print User's Manual" option.  Alternately, you can print if from the 
  90. DOS command line simply by issuing the following command:

  92.      COPY MANUAL.TXT PRN
  93.  
  94. The documentation file contains form-feed characters, so it can also be 
  95. printed by various printing utilities.
